Easter Season Sermon Series: "Unoffendable"
This sermon series is based in part on the best selling book of the same name. It’s a radical, provocative idea: We’re not entitled to get offended or stay angry. The idea of our own “righteous anger” is a myth. It is the number one problem in our societies today and, as Dallas Willard says, Christians have not been taught out of it. As it turns out, giving up our “right” to be offended can be one of the most freeing, healthy, simplifying, relaxing, refreshing, stress-relieving, encouraging things we can do. Order a copy of Unoffendable and read along with Pastor Brice to discover something of immeasurable value—a concrete, practical way to live life
Sacred Scripture: John 20:19-31
Overview: Thomas wanted “the smoking gun,” or the definitive empirical evidence that the one standing before him was the victim of the crime, the crucified and resurrected Jesus. Rather than criticizing Thomas, Jesus gives him what he desires.
Human Need: In a world built on the Scientific Method we all want proof, like Thomas.
Community Challenge: To share Thomas’ experience as one who receives the gift of faith—not something we decide so much as something with which we are blessed
