Day 16: Give Someone a Small Gift, Just Because

Scripture Highlight: "The generous person will flourish, and the one who refreshes others will be refreshed." —Proverbs 11:25

Reflection:Generosity is a powerful act that goes beyond material gifts. When we give, we create connection, spread kindness, and reflect God’s boundless love. A small gesture—a cup of coffee, a kind note, a flower—may seem minor, yet it can brighten someone’s day and remind them they are valued. Today, let’s practice generosity by giving a small, thoughtful gift to someone without expecting anything in return. In doing so, we participate in God’s love and experience the refreshing joy that comes with giving.

This kind of generosity does not necessarily mean giving out of abundance but rather giving from the heart, regardless of the size or cost. The reward is often intangible: a feeling of warmth, a smile in response, or even just a reminder of the blessings we have. Proverbs reminds us that those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed; generosity, therefore, becomes a cycle of blessing. As we give, we find ourselves renewed and encouraged, experiencing the peace that comes from knowing we have shared love in a small but meaningful way.

Scripture Study (Optional Extended Reading): Proverbs 11:24-28 In this passage, Proverbs teaches that generosity leads to true wealth, not necessarily in material gain, but in the richness of spirit and community. “One person gives freely, yet gains even more,” and “a generous person will prosper.” These verses challenge the assumption that holding tightly to what we have provides security. Instead, they remind us that when we open our hands and hearts to give, we reflect God’s own generosity and create a fuller life for ourselves and others. The passage affirms that our trust and security ultimately lie in God, not in wealth or possessions, and that a generous life is a meaningful and fulfilling one.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Think of a time when someone surprised you with a small, thoughtful gift. How did it make you feel?

  2. Is there someone in your life right now who could use a little encouragement or kindness?

  3. What keeps you from practicing generosity more often?

  4. How does today’s scripture challenge or expand your understanding of prosperity and generosity?

Prayer: Generous God, thank You for the endless ways You bless and sustain me. Open my heart to see the opportunities around me to give and share with others. Help me to give joyfully, without expectation, knowing that each small act of kindness reflects Your love. May my generosity bring encouragement and light to those I encounter today. Amen.

Call to Action: Today, surprise someone with a small gift, just because. It could be a handwritten note, a snack, a flower, or even a compliment. And if you’d like, share in the comments what you gave and to whom. Let’s celebrate generosity together and inspire one another to spread kindness!
