We continued our 6-week worship series, "Not A Fan" based on our small group study on Wednesday and Thursday nights - fan: an enthusiastic admirer.
In the Gospels, Jesus never seemed too interested in fans. Is that how you define your relationship with Him? An "enthusiastic admirer"? Close enough to Jesus to get the benefits but not so close to require sacrifice? He was looking for followers. Not just any follower though, but a...COMPLETELY. COMMITTED. FOLLOWER.
Worship Series: “Not a Fan”
Sunday Sermon Theme: "The Comfortable Cross"
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
Overview: Christ did not want to embrace the cross of Calvary. He clearly asked for this cup to pass from him. Yet he also said to God, his Abba Father, "Not my will, but Yours be done." And others followed Christ’s example. The Bible is a long list of imperfect misfits who discovered that weakness is strength. Though it seems backward to us, God teaches us that when we think we’re strong we’re really weak – but when we acknowledge our weakness and humble ourselves before the Lord we put ourselves in a position to receive strength.
Community Challenge: Will you, like Christ did before us, trust God enough to let your weakness be God’s strength?
